Artist Statement
I’ve spent all of my life in New York City. I was born, and still live, in Queens, which has shaped who I am today. Surrounded by a plethora of cultures, I grew a familiarity with being struck with the unfamiliar. The more I found myself in new situations, the more I felt an urge to spring into things that I had not yet experienced. My curiosity drove me to view things from odd perspectives, and to see things that seemed as if it had been discovered for the first time, which is why I delved straight into photography and cinematography.
I’ve always been inspired by how makeup can morph a face into another shape. Whether it is creating chiseled shapes through the use of shadows and highlights, or draping a beautiful cascade of color down the side of a person’s face, there are endless opportunities for creativity through the use of makeup. However, given that I had this past of viewing things in a strange light, I wanted to find a way to meld together my love for makeup and photography/cinematography. Thus, my YouTube channel was born.
My YouTube videos are quite different from those one would typically see on the internet. Most videos are essentially carbon copies of one another. I love to film in a dark room with natural light, which not only gives a really good contrast in my videos, but also draws attention to my face. I also like to film from odd angles and use many lenses in order to make my videos more composed and fluid. I film in this way to not only showcase my makeup artistry, but to also shock my audience with each odd looking angle. I find that creativity on the internet is slowly dying, as everyone is not looking to others for inspiration, but rather looking for someone from which they can create a carbon copy. I can only hope that in a sea of generic YouTubers, I can truly inspire at least one person to do things in a different way with makeup.
